Wyoming Hunger Initiative

In 2020, First Lady, Jennie Gordon, visited our Pantry and spent the night serving our community. She formed and is the spokesperson for the Wyoming Hunger Initiative, whose hope was to end childhood hunger. When COVID hit in 2020. the WHI quickly shifted its mission from childhood hunger to all hunger across our state.
For the last 3 years, our Pantry has had the incredible opportunity to work directly with the WHI to help end food insecurity. The Wyoming Hunger Initiative has opened our resources starting programs like Food From the Field (where hunters can donate game animals), Grow A Little Extra (where gardeners can plant an extra row and donate fresh produce to us), Food From the Farm and Ranch (where ranchers can donate beef) and much more.
The WHI has offered infrastructure grants where the Pantry has been able to buy freezers (as seen below), shelving, new technology, new stainless steel tables and much more. Holiday dinners and fresh produce have also been provided through the WHI grants and donations. For the 2nd year in a row, Governor Mark Gordon purchased a beef through this years 4H Livestock sale supporting not only our local 4H program and our youth but also our Pantry.
It’s because of the Wyoming Hunger Initiative that the Pantry is able to offer more resources to those families struggling with food insecurity. We are so thankful for First Lady Jennie Gordon’s hard work and dedication to the WHI, we are thankful to all the donors that support the Wyoming Hunger Initiative and we are proud to be one of the many partners fighting hunger in our state.
